Pitting corrosion

Pitting corrosion is a highly localized form of corrosion where small holes or “pits” form on the metal surface. These pits may look minor on the outside but can penetrate deeply, causing severe structural damage.

Where does pitting corrosion occur?

Where does pitting corrosion occur?

  • Marine & offshore wind – submerged hulls, ballast tanks, substations.
  • Oil & gas – pipelines, tanks, offshore structures.
  • Petrochemical & chemical – vessels and process units.

Pinovo’s role in pitting corrosion

  • Removes coatings and corrosion products around affected areas.
  • Makes pits clearly visible for inspection (NDT, visual checks).
  • Prepares the surface so protective coatings or composite repairs can be applied.

Pinovo does not repair pits – but it ensures they are exposed and ready for long-term protection with coatings or repair systems (e.g. Belzona).
